About the Artist
Donald Swenson – Over the past few years, I have been exploring themes of isolation. The subjects in my paintings are lost or disconnected from their environment. A large number of my paintings center on a small robot. I use this robot as a vehicle for creating an emotional response from the observer, without there being any true human connection to the environment.
These paintings started during a period of my life where everything was changing. I was newly married, newly unemployed, and soon to be a new father. Feeling a bit untethered, I went to my easel which was a place I avoided for almost twenty years.
I hope that people connect with my work and find some solace in the quiet places of my paintings. I hope that the loneliness in the paintings makes the observer feel less alone.
